Description
The Bong Hathi is a rounded terracotta elephant with intricate, detailed designs. According to legend, these figurines were once offerings to Singh Bonga, a revered Santhali deity worshipped by the Santhal people of ancient Mallabhum (primarily in the present Bankura district, Bishnupur).
During the reign of the Malla kings, Bishnupur thrived as a centre of art and culture. Elephants and horses, symbols of royal power and status, were decorated with fine ornaments—beautifully reflected in the craftsmanship of the Bong Hathi.
Bring the timeless charm of ancient Bengal to your décor.
